Here is a great article that I found a while back that explains the history of health insurance in the United States and how government intervention into medicine got us into the mess we are in today. It's a long article, but here are some of the key points:

The difference between health care and health insurance.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield started out a non-profit to protect doctors from losses, not patients.

No Self Defense Allowed

Two recent news stories have me up in arms. The first is about a Marine who was arrested for carrying a gun on a college campus. (Source) The reason this bothers me is because he has a concealed carry license and was not doing it to harm anyone, but to protect himself and others from the crazies that have been shooting up college campi in recent days. If I were back in college, I would love to know that there was a Marine in my classes packing heat because I would feel safe. A lot safer than some silly zero-tolerance policy that is going to do nothing to stop a madman from carrying a gun on campus intent on doing harm.

The second story is about a rancher on the border who is being portrayed as a bad guy for protecting his property and his country from illegal aliens. (Source) First of all, why can't a man protect his property any more? And secondly, if the government isn't going to protect the borders, then why can't the citizens?

Just more examples of our country heading in the wrong direction, in Hucklebuck's humble opinion.

Today is the 200th birthday of two famous men: Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin. I find it interesting that Google chose to honor Darwin over Lincoln today.

I'm not surprised, mind you, given Google's leftist political views, but I am still disappointed.

According to the Associated Press, President Obama told the National Prayer Breakfast "There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being." So what can we make from that statement?

1. President Obama is lying. He does not believe that statement and he is only saying it to appease to a certain group of people.

2. He believes it, but somehow thinks that it's still acceptable for man to take an innocent life.

3. He does not see that abortion is the taking of innocent life.

I'm afraid #3 is the correct answer. And that's the problem. It has become so commonplace in our society, that we don't see it for what it really is. My prayer today is that President Obama and millions of others in this country would see abortion for what it really is.

Photo ID: What's the Problem?

Recently the Texas Legislature discussed the idea of requiring a photo ID for voting. This makes perfect sense to me especially after this last presidential election when the group ACORN submitted thousands of fake voter registrations including Mickey Mouse and the starting line-up of the Dallas Cowboys. (Source) Yet last session the Democrats fought such legislation, arguing that it unfairly burdens the poor, minorities and older Texans. (Source) To which I reply, "wha??"

A photo ID in Texas cost $24 and does not expire for 6 years. That comes out to roughly 33 cents per month. Are you telling me that a voting adult cannot save $0.33 per month to obtain and maintain a valid ID? Just walking around in a parking lot, you could probably find 33 cents in one day! And when your ID does expire, you can renew it by mail.

Let's assume, for a moment, there are people that cannot afford the $0.33 per month. Then why doesn't the government subsidize them? There is a government subsidy for everything else. There is even a government subsidy so that you can switch your TV from analog to digital.

Furthermore, how does requiring a photo ID burden minorities? Is there a different process for obtaining an ID if you are a minority? Do you have to solve a Rubik's Cube or run a Survivor-like gauntlet while Jeff Probst tells you how bad you are doing?

It is obvious that the Democrats opposing this legislation are not concerned with voter fraud. In fact, they are counting on it. They are assuming that they "poor, minorities, and [elderly]" will vote for them and if they have to bend the rules to do it, so be it. This why Americans have such a disgust for politicians today. What they are doing is just shameful.

A few years ago after hearing the same 3 songs being played over and over on the radio, I flipped to the AM dial. Since then I have become a bit of a talk radio junkie. My wife hates it because I will get all riled up about something I heard on the radio and the bore her to tears with the details. So I figured instead of boring her anymore, I'd bore you my faithful readers.
